JASPER NATIONAL PARK

ALBERTA, CANADA

May, 2000

Our trip to the Canadian Rockies was in early Spring, so many of the lakes were still frozen or partially frozen. However, it still made for some excellant hiking, considering that the crowds were non existant.

lake 1
This is one of the bigger lakes in the Valley of the Five Lakes in Jasper National Park. The Valley of the Five Lakes has a wonderfull trail system. We spent about one and a half hours and walked a loop to see three of them. The one shown here is still partially frozen over.
lake 2
Another picture of the larger of the five lakes. That's Scott (aka Topher) there - my 'Travel Toph' - this was our first trip together.

lake 3
And here I am, taking a little rest...

stream 2
Along the highway from Jasper to Marmott Basin ski hill is a little stop area - very easy to miss. We were the only two there and decided to eat our lunch sitting on those huge rocks right by the stream. We both had a little alone time too - the noise from the rushing water was deafening. I would image that stream would be quite a river in late spring.

We took a walk a little further down that same stream. Luckily, we didn't run into any bears!

canyon
Here's Travel Toph at Maligne Canyon, reading one of the many placards that describe the geology of the canyon. I recommend stopping to read a few of them - quite interesting.

canyon
Maligne Canyon has quite a few impressive waterfalls. This one is still frozen and so beautiful.
